Prevention Course in Healthcare-Associated Infection Knowledge and Control
(Prevention CHKC)
OVERVIEW
Prevention CHKC is online course designed to train frontline healthcare personnel, defined as those “responsible for direct patient care” in best practices to prevent and control HAIs and pathogens that can spread in the healthcare setting. Training educates frontline personnel to successfully execute best practices in topics that include:
- Clean Hands.
- Clean Environment.
- Occupational Health.
- Diagnostic & Antibiotic Stewardship.
- Isolation Precautions & PPE.
- CAUTI & CLABSI.
- Pneumonia.
- MRSA & MDROs.
- C. difficile.
- Surgical Site Infection.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Prevention CHKC is intended for frontline healthcare personnel, defined for the purposes of this project as individuals in a healthcare facility “responsible for direct patient care.” These individuals may be physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, certified nursing assistants, laboratory technologists, medical assistants, emergency medical technicians, patient care technicians, respiratory therapy technicians, surgical technicians, anesthesia providers, students, ID fellows, critical care fellows, transportation personnel, pharmacists, physical and occupational therapists and aides, and others. Prevention CHKC was developed from the standpoint of delivery of healthcare in acute care in the United States, but may be adaptable for other locations.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Review best practices for the prevention of device-and pathogen-associated infections in hospitals, e.g. CLABSI, CAUTI, SSI, VAP/VAE, C. difficile, and MRSA, how to perform and promote hand hygiene, and how to improve frontline personnel’s understanding of disinfection and sterilization as appropriate for their role(s)
- Demonstrate ways to perform basic HAI prevention strategies, plus advanced approaches for outbreak management
- Examine performance and accountability measures to implement infection prevention practices
SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION STATEMENT
In order to receive the Course Certificate, participants must successfully complete all sessions and post-tests with passing scores of 60%. You will have the opportunity to retake each post-test twice.
